A model case of overcoming structural change

We built a model case of an innovation ecosystem in action when Nokia closed its research facilities in Jyväskylä in 2007. The Agora Center and the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä, swiftly initiated a new operational vision with Nokia, other businesses, and the city. The successful operations of the ecosystem not only saved work places but also created new employment and companies.

The Agora Center co-creates by building partnerships and providing a creative, interdisciplinary environment. Within this milieu, innovators find funding and synergies, gather know-how, manage the proof of relevance phases, build teams and business cases around promising project results, and launch spin-offs with evidence-based solutions.

Tools for learning and balanced life

We develop concepts and prototypes that respond to the everyday needs of real users in the fields of learning and well-being. Our prototype mobile tool allows teens and young adults to monitor their sleep, nutrition, mood, social relationships, and exercise through game-like, motivating elements. Initial field trials demonstrate promising results, suggesting that sleep-pattern monitoring may help reduce typical student fatigue.
